A Poem for the Trip Home

It seems that Tabitha spent part of her flight home from San Francisco writing poetry. She showed it to us when we got home, and she agreed that you would like to see it.

IN THE ORIGINAL:

Over the Wind
by Tabitha

Over the rainbow and beond the wind to a land unseen.
Over the rainbow and beond the wind to a land not crol or mean.
There is the land I live in.
There is the land of nice.
The land of pace, cind, and sweet.
That is the land of happynes and love.
That is the land where drams come trure.

IN STANDARD SPELLING:

Over the Wind
by Tabitha

Over the rainbow and beyond the wind to a land unseen.
Over the rainbow and beyond the wind to a land not cruel or mean.
There is the land I live in.
There is the land of nice.
The land of peace, kind, and sweet.
That is the land of happiness and love.
That is the land where dreams come true.

Tabitha in San Francisco - Day 5 (5/26/08)

We got up, ate breakfast, and then we jumped on the plane. It was a very long ride, because we stopped in Kansas. There were lots of cows. After we stopped there, we flew the rest of the trip, all the way back to Milwaukee Wisconsin. And then drove the rest of the way home, stopping at Burger King for dinner.

When we came home we had a short reunion with the cats, got changed into our jammies, and fell asleep.

Tabitha in San Francisco - Day 4 (5/25/08)

After we got up, we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge, when we were on our way to Muir Woods. The bridge was very good because it was beautiful and long, and very structurally made. When they first started painting the Golden Gate Bridge, when they finished painting one side they had to go and paint the other side again!

The woods were very very nice. There was all this wildlife, and very, very, VERY old trees. I think one they had hanging up. That one actually showed when the light bulb was invented! And it also showed when Columbus discovered America. There was another tree that had burns all over it. One tree was so hollow that you could stand inside! I also made a little diorama while we were there. There was also a caterpillar the size of three pennies. And a squirrel too, or was that a chipmunk?

Then we drove to an overlook where you could see the fog and actually stand in it. Then we drove over to the beach, where I got my pants wet in the Pacific Ocean. The weather was pretty cold, but the beach was pretty nice. Later on we went to a lighthouse. There was a very long bridge, where you could only cross two-by-two on it, and then we came to the actual lighthouse. It had its foghorn going. It sort of sounded like an elephant was crying.

After that we went back across the Golden Gate Bridge and went home and had pizza. After the pizza we played a couple rounds of Uno. I won once. And then we had a shower and then we played a couple more rounds of Uno, and that's when I went to bed.

Tabitha in San Francisco – Day 3 (5/25/08)

After breakfast we followed Uncle Dave to the subway. It was sort of hard getting in, but after we were in, it was fine. It’s always a little hard to get the right subway, and sometimes you have to wait way too long. After the subway, we took a boat to Angel Island! There we went hiking. Then after we went hiking we had a picnic. And the gulls liked the chips too. The boat trip was nice, back and forth. It actually lets you walk around and it has three levels! When we were there I tried to look for dolphins, but I didn’t see any.

After we got back to San Francisco, there was this little stand and they had bungee ropes! And I got to go on it, and I did some back flips. But I couldn’t really do front flips. The bungee pants were awesome. We tried to go to the aquarium, but it was $15 per person, and we had six people! Then we went over to see the seals! There was a little one all alone on one of those little floatie pads. He must have stunk a lot. And there was a battle raging on one of the floatie pads, and one seal actually got kicked off! After we finished, we walked ALL THE WAY over to the cable car. It was sort of good. Here is why it was “sort of” and not regular good – it was very bumpy, and there were way too many stops. The cable car took us home. And that’s about my day.

Tabitha in San Francisco – Day 2 (5/24/08)

Right after breakfast, we went to Uncle Geoff’s work. It was pretty nice, and I never was in a real bakery before! They had all different sorts of pastries, and real live lobsters! There was also my favorite kind of cheese there – Laughing Cow. There was a pink cheese too. It was a type of cheddar. And then we had to leave.

Then after wandering around, we went to a computer store. I don’t know what it was called, but it was pretty cool. They actually had computers that kids could play on! I did I-Spy Mystery. Then after wandering around some more, we went to an Italian Restaurant for Uncle Dave’s birthday. It was pretty good. The pasta was great!

After wandering around some more – and my feet are getting very tired now – we went back to the apartment in which I’m writing this in and after a little while of doing whatever we had Uncle Dave’s birthday dinner. This involved a cake that I couldn’t have! I had some ice cream and a special cookie. Then after that, I went to bed.

Tabitha in San Francisco – Day 1 (5/23/08)

We took a very long airplane ride and I tried some very different food today (Lamb Biryani and potato nan). I touched a giant pinecone (A short palm tree.) I went to a graveyard and found lots of petals there. (The graveyard was in the Mission Dolores.)
